History

Metalimex The joint stock company METALIMEX Praha was established according to Act no. 119/48 by a decree of the Minister for Foreign Trade on December 3rd 1948. From January 3rd 1949, the company, with its headquarters in Prague and a subsidiary in Bratislava, monopolized the segment of foreign trade of which the main goods included ferrous, manganese and other ores, non-ferrous metals and their semi-products and raw materials for their production, further ferro-alloys, metal additions, precious metals, different waste products and scrap.

Significant dates in the company's history

1948 Establishment of the chartered joint stock company METALIMEX for the import and export of ores, metals and accessory substances.
1950 Merger with Carboexport company represented the extension of commodity assortment by solid fuels and electrical power and the discontinuation of trading in accessory substances, electrodes and graphite. At the same time the subsidiary in Bratislava was wound up.
1953 Transformation of METALIMEX, joint stock company, into a Foreign Trade Company (FTC) for export and import of ores, metals and solid fuels.
1959 Extension of the core business to include import and export of gold, silver, platinum and platinum group metals, as well as providing active refining of foreign metallurgy raw materials in the domestic industry and passive refining of such raw materials abroad.
1967 Addition of natural gas trade.
1970 Delimitation of traditional commodities such as ferro-alloys, aluminium, manganese and iron ores, wolfram and molybdenum concentrates to a newly established Kerametal company with headquarters in Bratislava.
1989 Establishment of a joint stock company named METALIMEX a. s. with the main subject of activity - buying and selling of traditional commodities.
1992 Establishment of subsidiaries with 100% share of METALIMEX a. s.:
METALIMEX SEMIS, s. r. o. – trade in precious metals, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical products, including scrap.
METALIMEX INTERNATIONAL, s. r. o. – trade in non-ferrous metals and ferro-alloys.
1992 Establishment of a subsidiary in Slovakia - Slovenergo s.r.o. - 100% Company share.
1995 Decision of the Czech Government to terminate natural gas trading.
1996 Fusion with the parent company METALIMEX a. s., of subsidiaries METALIMEX International, s.r.o. and METALIMEX Semis, s.r.o.
1998 Acquiring coal export from the production of OKD, a.s. in Q4 - one of the decisive moments for the further development of trading activities in the area of solid fuels.
1999 Company fully takes over export of coal and coke production from the group Karbon Invest, a.s.
2005 In 2005 changes occurred in METALIMEX a. s. in the ownership structure with the result of a 100% share ownership of OKD, a. s. in METALIMEX a. s.
2006 During 2006 a fundamental restructuring change occurred in the firm's activities, when in June part of the business was sold – the organizational unit of the fuels division, which secured buying and selling of coal production. This change restored to the firm its corresponding name, along with the activities for which it was founded in 1948.
2006 In September 2006 a change occurred in the share structure of METALIMEX a. s. with the capital entry of the shareholder MTX CZ, a. s. with a 90% stake. The entry of the new shareholder ensures complete continuity of the company's trading activities in the coming years.
2007 In October 2007 MTX CZ, a. s. becomes the 100% owner of METALIMEX a. s.
